Night driving

When driving at night your visibility distance is limited to your headlight range. Always adjust your speed so you can stop for everything you can see. Use full beam where possible and dip when approaching or following traffic. When dazzled by oncoming traffic: look at the right edge of the road. Increase your following distance at night — you see the braking of oncoming vehicles later.

Key rules

  • 1Adjust speed to visibility distance
  • 2Full beam where possible
  • 3Dip at oncoming and following traffic
  • 4Dazzled: look at right edge of road
  • 5Greater following distance at night
