Aquaplaning
Aquaplaning occurs when you drive too fast on a wet road surface and the tyre can no longer displace water quickly enough. The tyre loses contact with the road. You recognise aquaplaning by light steering and increasing engine revs without extra speed. The correct response: gently release the accelerator, do not brake and steer straight ahead. No sudden steering inputs. Once the tyres regain grip you can drive normally.
